Overview
A species can be given a charge as part of the definition of the species.
The charge is generally for display only.
SysCAD will not enforce or warn about charged streams.
SysCAD will not check the charge balance of a reaction, but the Reaction Editor can (optionally) check the charge balance.
Overall Calculation
The calculation of overall charge of in a stream is performed by addition of the multiplication of species charge by species molar flow for all species, and dividing this by the total molar flow.
- [math]\displaystyle{ \cfrac{\sum\limits^{^N}_{x=1} (Charge_x * Moles_x)}{\sum\limits^{^N}_{x=1} (Moles_x)} }[/math]
Implementation in SysCAD
- Defining Charge in the Species Properties Database - How to specify the charge of a species as part of its definition in the Species Properties Database.
- Displaying Charge in a Project - The Charge can be displayed throughout a project by enabling the Charge tick box on the Views page in Plant Model (View - Plant Model - Views Tab).
- Display of Charge in Units and Pipes - This describes the information shown in the access window of pipes, tanks, etc.
- Charge used in a Project - The Charge assigned to a species in a project can be seen on the Definition Tab of the Species Properties page (Species - View Properties). The number of charged species, cations and anions in a project is shown on the first tab page of the Species Properties page.
