This section outlines the Tutorial documentation and Projects distributed with SysCAD.

Introduction

A SysCAD project can be set up to simulate a full plant model containing many flowsheets, reactions, control strategies, etc.

To help new SysCAD users, a number of Tutorial documents and projects are available to demonstrate the many features and functionality in the SysCAD software. Ideally, new users should attend a SysCAD training course.

These Tutorial documents and projects are discussed in the sections below.

Basic Tutorial

As part of the SysCAD install, some tutorial files are distributed to help users get started with creating their first simple SysCAD project.

These files are available to all SysCAD users, they can be found under the SysCADxxx\Tutorial folder which include:

  1. SysCAD9.3GettingStarted.pdf - gives a brief introduction on how to obtain a license, and how open and run an existing SysCAD project.
  2. SysCADBasicTutorial.pdf - a step-by-step guide to assist the user when learning to build a SysCAD project. This is also a useful reference document for all SysCAD users. See Tutorial Documentation for the course outline.
  3. SysCADQuickReference.pdf (Page1|Page2|Page3|Page4) - a quick reference guide for the commonly used SysCAD commands. We recommend printing this file for easy reference.
  4. Distributed Tutorial Projects - Many SysCAD tutorial projects are included in the Tutorial Folder. They are either pre-drawn or saved at the end of each tutorial section. The user may use these to check their projects at the end of each section, if required.

Tutorial Documentation

The SysCADBasicTutorial document covers some basic functions and features of SysCAD in a step-by-step manner.

Topics covered in this document include:

  1. The basic Commands required in building a SysCAD project.
  2. Entering Data into the SysCAD Model.
  3. Editing the SysCAD Species Database and Configuration file.
  4. Adding Reactions.
  5. Adding different types of control.
  6. Merge two existing projects.
  7. Connect flows between flowsheets.
  8. Introduction to some advanced features.
  9. Create and edit reports.

NOTES:

  1. The document SysCADBasicTutorial.pdf is updated from time to time to include the most up to date features. Please check SysCAD Downloads for any new release of software or document updates.
  2. This document is also available in Spanish upon request. (Thanks to Promet101 for the Spanish Translation.)

Some Tutorial Videos are available here. The user can refer to these for quick demonstrations of selected SysCAD features/functions.

Please note that these videos supplement the SysCADBasicTutorial.pdf, but not all topics covered in the tutorial document contain supplementary video files.

Supplementary Tutorial Documentation

Other Tutorial Documentation files are available for further training. These files are not available to all users, they are normally used as part of the formal training or can be downloaded by SysCAD users with current maintenance contract from SysCAD Downloads.

FEM Tutorial

  3. Using the FEM reactor to simulate a blast furnace - introduction to pyrometallurgy.
  4. Using the FEM reactor for aquatic chemistry, eg prediction of pH

OLI Introduction

Topics covered in this document include:

  1. How to export the OLI Studio Chemistry Model data for external use (SysCAD).
  2. How to map species between OLI and SysCAD
  3. How to set up SysCAD to perform standalone OLI stream analysis calculation.
  4. How to include OLI calculation in the SysCAD flowsheet.
