Sugar Milling Example

Features Demonstrated

Shows the use of the Sugar species model and Sugar unit operations:

  1. Sugar Species Model
  2. Cane Shredder
  3. Sugar Crusher
  4. Sugar Juice Screen

Brief Project Description

The project shows a simple Sugar Milling train consist of:

  • Sugar Cane Shredder - user can specify and the power usage for this unit
  • Multi stage Sugar Crushing circuit - user can washing, milling and separation parameters for this unit.
  • Sugar juice Screen where specify the separation of mud and fibre
  • Steam turbines, calculating the steam requirement for the shredder and crushing units.

  2. Mud Filter

Brief Project Description

The simple project consist of two stage juice heating prior to clarification of the juice.

The mud from the clarifier is sent to the mud filter to recover some juice.

The Mud filter allow control of the cake POL as well as separate mud cake fibre / mud solids / moisture retention control.

Features Demonstrated

Shows the use of the Sugar species model and Sugar unit operations:

  1. Sugar Species Model: Note: The project file "Evaporation (Sugar) Example.spf" has been modified to operate without requiring the Sugar species model.
  2. Falling Film Evaporator 4: Note: The FFE4 unit model is capable of simulating both Rising Film Evaporators (RFE) and Falling Film Evaporators (FFE).

Brief Project Description

The simplified project includes a preheater, up to six stages of falling film evaporators, a barometric condenser, and optional re-flash tanks.

Users can configure the system through the EVAP_SETUP general controller, including:

  • Enabling/disabling individual effects
  • Setting heat transfer area
  • Specifying heat transfer coefficients (HTC)
  • Configuring recirculation options
  • Accounting for heat loss
  • Adjusting feed flowrate
  • Controlling juice outlet Brix
  • Setting preheater temperature

Brief Project Description

The simple project consist of one sugar vacuum pan unit. The aim is to demonstrate the use of this unit model.
