Installation Tests

This page lists some tests that can be performed after a new SysCAD installation is performed to test that it has been installed correctly.

  • SysCADxxx refers to the default installation folder (this could be SysCAD 138, SysCAD137 or SysCAD93).
Test Name Test Method Expected Result Comments
Open SysCAD Run SysCAD93.exe by either of the following:
  1. using shortcut on desktop
  2. from Start menu
  3. by double clicking SysCAD93.exe file in the SysCADxxx\bin folder
SysCAD opens with no error messages (may be in demo mode).
Licensing
Test USB License Key
(Stand-alone)
With SysCAD closed, insert USB License Key into spare USB drive. Open SysCAD. Check License\License Information... to ensure all required modes and add-ons are licensed. SysCAD is not in Demo mode (has valid license). The license location needs to be set to a license folder which contains the license files (but no software license), eg. SysCADxxx\License.
Test Network License Browse for Network license folder. Press Update. Check License\License Information... to ensure all required modes and add-ons are licensed. SysCAD is not in Demo mode (has valid license). The license location needs to be set to the network license folder which contains the software license.
Projects
Open a SysCAD project Project opens. If you don't have a project of your own to open, try opening one of the example projects which are part of the install at SysCADxxx\Examples or SysCADxxx\ExamplesDynamic.
Run a SysCAD project After opening a project, from the menu choose Actions - Run or press the Command Button Runbutton.png Project runs.
Edit a SysCAD project As an example, insert a new unit. From the menu choose Graphics - Insert - Unit or press the Command Button InsertUnit.png A new unit can be inserted. Editing a SysCAD project is not allowed for encrypted flowsheets or if you only have a Run-time license.
Save a SysCAD project As an example, use the Save Project Version command.
  • For Build 137 and later: from the menu choose Project - Save Version
  • For Build 136 and earlier: from the menu choose File - Save Version
  • or press the Command Button SaveVersion.png.
  • In the Project Save Options dialog box, insert the comment "Test" and press OK.
Project saves successfully.
Reactions
Edit a Reaction File In an open project, find a unit with reactions (RB tab in access window) or turn on the Reactions sub-model (see Reaction Block (RB) for help with this). On the RB tab page, press the "Edit Rct" button. SysCAD Reaction Editor opens the chosen rct file or creates it if it doesn't already exist. Editing a reaction (rct) is not allowed for encrypted reaction files.
Updates
Update version of SysCAD With SysCAD closed, extract bin_13X.XXXXX.zip files into the SysCADxxx\bin folder, replacing all previous files (refer to SysCAD Updates for more information). Reopen SysCAD. SysCAD is updated to the new version with no errors.
