Introduction

Crypkey version 8 is used with SysCAD 9.3. The most recent version of SysCAD 9.2 (Build 135) is available using either Crypkey v7 or Crypkey v8.

This page describes how to upgrade a SysCAD license that currently uses Crypkey version 7 (i.e. versions of SysCAD 9.2) for use with a build that uses Crypkey version 8. It also describes how to use builds with differing Crypkey versions.

It is recommended that when users are ready to begin using SysCAD 9.3 they also upgrade to latest Build 135 using Crypkey 8 so that a common version of licensing software is used.

Upgrade from Version 7

The License location in SysCAD must point to a valid license folder. When using builds which use Crypkey 8, the license folder must contain the updated versions of the ngn file (crp32002.ngn) version 8.x and the licensing utility (SysCAD.exe) version 3.x.

The updated versions of the required files can be found:

• in the SysCAD93\License folder which was created as part of a full install of SysCAD 9.3
• in the SysCAD93\Setup\LicensingUtility folder which was created as part of a full install of SysCAD 9.3
• on the downloads page (https://www.syscad.net/login/)

Upgrading SysCAD USB License Key

Generally no action is required. A newly installed SysCAD 9.3 will be referencing a new Crypkey version 8 license folder which will then find the USB License Key.

USB License Keys should continue to work, but some may need an upgrade. Contact Kenwalt if your USB License Key does not work with SysCAD 9.3 after checking that you are pointing at a valid Crypkey version 8 license folder.

If you need to run SysCAD 9.2 Build 135, it is recommended that you download and unzip a version of Build 135 that uses Crypkey version 8 so that only one version of the licensing software is used. You will need to change the Build 135 license folder location to point at a valid Crypkey 8 license folder.

With a USB License Key it is possible to use older versions of SysCAD with Crypkey 7 and newer versions of Crypkey 8 on the same PC. See description below.

Upgrading stand-alone SysCAD Software License

Follow these steps:

• Ensure all versions of SysCAD are closed.
• From the installed SysCAD 9.3 License folder copy crp32002.ngn and syscad.exe to the existing license folder.
• Run SysCAD 9.3 and set the license location to point to the existing license folder.
• If you need to run SysCAD 9.2 Build 135, download and unzip a version of Build 135 that uses Crypkey version 8.

NOTES:

1. Once crp32002.ngn and syscad.exe in existing license folder are updated, the first time SysCAD (or the license utility syscad.exe) are used the license is upgraded. It will no longer be possible to use older versions of SysCAD 9.2 with this license folder.
2. It is not possible to change a software license using Crypkey 8 back to using Crypkey 7.

Upgrading network SysCAD Software License

Follow these steps:

• Ensure all versions of SysCAD are closed.
• On the server, from the installed SysCAD 9.3 Setup\NetworkLicense_Server folder copy all the files other than syscad.ces.ini to the license folder on the server. Note that there are new versions of ELM, crp32002.ngn, syscad.ced and syscad.exe.
• On the server, run ELM or license utility syscad.exe. The network software license will automatically be upgraded. Check that the license is valid and has the expected options.
• On the client, from the installed SysCAD 9.3 Setup\NetworkLicense_Client folder copy all the files other than syscad.cec.ini to the license folder on the client. Note that there are new versions of crp32002.ngn, syscad.ced and syscad.exe.
• On the client, if you need to run SysCAD 9.2 Build 135, download and unzip a version of Build 135 that uses Crypkey version 8.

NOTES:

1. Once new versions of crp32002.ngn, etc. in existing server network license folder are updated, the first time SysCAD, ELM or license utility syscad.exe are used the license is upgraded. It will no longer be possible to use older versions of SysCAD 9.2 with this network license folder.
2. It is not possible to change a software license using Crypkey 8 back to using Crypkey 7.
3. The new version of network license software supports a new TCPIP oprion for license management which is more robust in a number of network configurations. Please contact Kenwalt for more information.

Using Version 7 and Version 8 side by side

A single license folder will only be valid for either Crypkey version 7 builds or Crypkey version 8 builds, based on the versions of the ngn and Licensing Utility files that it contains.

If a user requires to use both Crypkey version 7 and Crypkey version 8 builds of SysCAD then two license folders are required.

SysCAD USB License Key

Older versions of SysCAD 9.2 should reference the license folder with the Crypkey version 7 files. SysCAD 9.3 (or SysCAD 9.2 Build 135 with Crypkey 8), should reference the license folder with the Crypkey version 8 files. So this is easily achieved, the two versions remember the license folder locations separately.

SysCAD Software License

Will require at least two separate licenses. If the user has more than one license, consider initially upgrading some but not all licenses with the Crypkey version 8 files.

If using stand-alone software licenses it is possible to upgrade to a USB License Key for the stand alone license which does support use of both SysCAD 9.2 Crypkey 7 and SysCAD 9.3 Crypkey 8 versions. Please contact Kenwalt to change to USB License Keys.

The recommendation is to upgrade to use latest SysCAD 9.2 with Crypkey 8 so that this version can use a shared SysCAD 9.3 license folder.
