# Species Filter

For Help on this functionality in SysCAD 9.3 Build 137, see Species Filter (Build 137). ## Contents ## General The species filter allows the user to filter the species display on the Sp tab, Species Properties ($SDB) page and FEM tab of the FEM Reactor.

This is a really useful feature, as it allows the user to quickly see only the species containing a particular element, or elements. The different filter options allow the filter to be based on the elemental definition of a species or on the short or long tag for the species name. In a project with a large number of species, this makes following elements, components or species much easier.

New options in Build 138 allow this list to be further refined by Phase and Mass Fraction.

If the user clicks on the button, then the display changes as follows:

The number to the right of the Filter button informs the user how many species are displayed out of the total number of species in the project.

### Phase Options

Selection Description The Phase display options available are: . These selections are described below: All This will display ALL of the species in the stream, subject to the other criteria. Solids This will limit the display to only solid species. Liquids This will limit the display to only liquid species. Vapours This will limit the display to only gaseous species. Solids & Liquids This will limit the display to only solid and liquid species. Solids & Vapours This will limit the display to only solid and gaseous species. Liquids & Vapours This will limit the display to only liquid and gaseous species.

Notes:

1. When used on the Sp tab, the filter option works together with the 'Show Zeros' button. So, if species with zero flow are hidden, then they will NOT be visible even if the filter is enabled.

### Filter Options

Selection Description The Filter display options available are: . These selections are described below: Content All species which meet the Phase and Content criteria will be displayed. Content & MassFrac Limit Only species which meet the Phase and Content criteria AND have a mass fraction greater than or equal to the user specified MassFrac.Limit will be displayed. Content & MassFrac Largest Only the top N species (based on Mass Fraction) which meet the Phase and Content criteria will be displayed, where N = the user specified MassFrac.Count. MassFrac Limit Only species which meet the Phase criteria AND have a mass fraction greater than or equal to the user specified MassFrac.Limit will be displayed. MassFrac Largest Only the top N species (based on Mass Fraction) which meet the Phase criteria will be displayed, where N = the user specified MassFrac.Count. Calculations Only Only available on the Sp tab. This will display all the species calculations in the stream.

Notes:

1. When used on the Species Properties ($SDB) page, only the Content option is relevant. All other options are not available. 2. When used on the Sp tab, species calculations are not shown when the Filter is On except when the Calculations Only filter option is selected. Calculations are not included in the counts displayed in the tag comments next to the Filter Off button. 3. The MassFrac Largest option will only show species with non-zero mass fractions. So if MassFrac.Count = 10 but there are only 8 species with mass fraction > 0, then only 8 species will be displayed. 4. When used on the Sp tab, the filter option works together with the 'Show Zeros' button. So, if species with zero flow are hidden, then they will NOT be visible even if the filter is enabled. ### Content Options Selection Description Example The Content display options available are: . These selections are described below: All This will display ALL of the species in the stream All species Contains Any Element This will display all species that contain any of the elements entered in their elemental definition. 1. If the user enters 'Ni', then the list will contain only NiSO4(aq), NiO(s) and NiS(s).2. If the user enters 'Ni, O', then the list will contains All species that contain either Ni or O - in this case that will be almost all of the species in the list! Contains All Elements This will display only species that contain ALL of the elements entered in their elemental definition. 1. If the user enters 'Ni', then the list will contain NiSO4(aq), NiO(s) and NiS(s).2. If the user enters 'Ni, O', then the list will only contain NiSO4(aq) and NiO(s). (NiS(s) does not contain Oxygen, so it will not be included). Starts with ... This will display species that start with the text entered based on the short or long species tag depending on the current SpeciesTag selection. 1. If the user enters 'Ni', then the list will contain NiSO4(aq), NiO(s) and NiS(s).2. If the user enters 'Ni, O' and Short species tags are shown, then the list will still only contain NiSO4(aq), NiO(s) and NiS(s). There are no species that start with 'O', so the list does not change from example 1. Contains any ... This will display species that contain the text entered in the currently displayed short or long species tag. 1. If the user enters 'Ni' and Short species tags are shown, then the list will contain NiSO4(aq), NiO(s) and NiS(s).2. If the user enters 'AsO4', then the list will contain H3AsO4(aq) and FeAsO4(s).2. If the user enters 'chloride' and Long species tags are shown, then the list will contain Sodium_chloride(aq). Contains All ... This will display species that contain ALL the separate text entered in the currently displayed short or long species tag. 1. If the user enters 'Fe, O4' and Short species tags are shown, then the list will contain Fe2[SO4](aq), FeSO4(aq) and FeAsO4(s). Notes: 1. The first two Element filter options are based on the elemental definition of the species and the text of the species ShortTag and LongTag is ignored. 2. The last three filter options are based on the long or short species tags currently shown (depending on selection for SpeciesTag button). The elemental definition is ignored for these filter options. 3. When used on the Sp tab, the filter option works together with the 'Show Zeros' button. So, if species with zero flow are hidden, then they will NOT be visible even if the filter is enabled. ## Species Properties and FEM The species filter on the Species Properties ($SDB) page and FEM tab of the FEM Reactor includes an additional option to filter the species based on temperature range for Cp.

• LoT allows the user to enter the lowest temperature of interest. Only species with a Cp value ABOVE the specified temperature will be displayed, ie. species whose LoT value is less than the user specified LoT value. If the user enters a '*' (or leaves this as the default), then no lower temperature limit will be applied.
• HiT allows the user to enter the highest temperature of interest. Only species with a Cp value BELOW the specified temperature will be displayed, ie. species whose HiT value is greater than the user specified HiT value. If the user enters a '*' (or leaves this as the default), then no upper temperature limit will be applied.
• If both LoT and HiT have the default '*', then there will be no filter based on temperature.

## Examples

If the user is interested in seeing only solid species which contain Copper, they can enable the Filter and show only solid species containing Cu:

If the user is interested in seeing only species which contain Copper AND have a mass fraction >= 1%, they can enable the Filter and show only species containing Cu with a mass fraction >= 1%:
