Converting Projects to More Recent Builds

It is recommended that a user upgrades projects in a step wise fashion. For example, if the user currently has SysCAD 8.2 installed, then it is advisable to upgrade to SysCAD 9.0 and then to SysCAD 9.1 before finally upgrading to SysCAD 9.2.

WARNING: Once your projects are converted to the latest version, you cannot use them in old versions of SysCAD. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you have a backup of your project files, especially before using a significantly newer version.

Upgrade From SysCAD 8.1 to SysCAD 8.2

Project from SysCAD 8.1 will upgrade easily into SysCAD 8.2. However, some unit operations will need to be checked by the user prior to a resolve.

1) Species models: The previously named Mass Weighted Mean and Steam/Water species model have been renamed to be Standard. The steam/water method is now been globally set via the menu command View | Plant Model | H2OProperties. The method used should be set to the IF97H20. This is the implementation of the Industrial Standards (IAPWS97) for water and steam properties.
2) Unit Operation Flash Tank - For any stand alone flash tanks, the pressure method needs to be reconfigured to either Required, RequiredT or Atmospheric. The default Saturated method is only used for flash tanks in a flash train. One way to check units required reconfiguration is to turn on the status colour for error. See Graphics Symbols Displaying Colours for more information.
3) Pressure methods have also been added to any tanks and ties. The user should also check these units if pressure around them is important.
4) SysCAD 8.2 no longer allows loading of species data from Defaults.mdb, all species data must be stored in the project group - SysCAD.mdb. Thus you may need to Import Data (from Defaults.mdb to SysCAD.mdb) for any 8.1 projects that load species data from a combination of SysCAD.mdb and Defaults.mdb.
5) Some tag names have changed, this may require changes in PID controllers, PGM's, Excel reports, trends and so on. SysCAD will give warnings for all unknown tags. Check the message window for any potential problems.

Upgrade From SysCAD 8 to SysCAD 8.1

For users upgrading from SysCAD 8 to SysCAD 8.1 projects, when a project is loaded for the first time in SysCAD8.1, SysCAD will rename the following folders:

SysCAD 8 SysCAD 81
SysCAD8\$cfgfiles SysCAD8x\BaseFiles
SysCAD8\$cfgfiles\$SysCAD.mdb SysCAD8x\BaseFiles\Default.mdb
SysCAD8\project Group\$cfgfiles SysCAD8x\project Group\cfgfiles
..\Project Group\$cfgfiles\$SysCAD.mdb ..\Project Group\cfgfiles\SysCAD.mdb
..\project.spf\$.spj ..\"project".spf\project.spj
..\project.spf\$DB ..\"project".spf\Database
..\project.spf\$LC The $LC folder and all its sub folders are replaced by the file RmtFiles.Stg. (In SysCAD82, a readable version of this file is also saved - RmtFilesBackup.zip)
