General Description
The splitter model was used to split the feed streams into two user-defined streams. The functionality in the splitter model has been superseded by the Tie.
All of the feed streams to the Splitter will be mixed and the resulting homogenous product will be split between the 'under' and 'over' size streams. If the user connects more than one pipe to either the over or under size stream, then the over or under size product will be split equally between the streams.
The splitter is generally used to emulate a screen or cyclone on a very simple basis. If the user has size distribution information, then the actual Screen or Cyclone model will split the feed stream based on well-defined screening or cyclone theory.
The splitter can operate in any one of three modes:
- The user defines individual species splits to the oversize. A maximum of two species may be specified.
- The user defines the percentage of solids and liquids in the feed stream/s that must report to the oversize stream.
- The user defines the percentage of solids in the feed that must report to the oversize, as well as the percent solids in the oversize stream. The model will calculate the liquid split to give the required solids percentage.
Diagram
The diagram shows the default drawing of the Splitter, with all of the streams that have to be connected for the unit to operate.
The physical location of the streams connecting to the Splitter is unimportant. The user may connect the streams to any position on the unit.

Data Sections
The default access window consists of two sections,
- The first tab has the same name as the model tag, contains general information relating to the unit.
- The last section Audit contains summary information required for Mass and Energy balance. See Model Examples for enthalpy calculation Examples.
