Introduction
The Message Window can be accessed by:
| Hot Spots | | Left Click to Activate |
| Menu Option | View - Messages |
This window will be opened at all times to report any errors, warnings and general information messages. Some sample messages are show in the dialog box below.
There are two sections in the Message Window; the messages are displayed in the sequence they were generated.
Top Section
- The top section of the Message Window is used to display general messages, for example the documents loaded or the save time will belong to this category.
- When the list is full, the oldest messages (top messages) are discarded as new messages arrive.
Bottom Section
- The bottom section is a condition list, which is used for model or solver messages while SysCAD is running or solving.
- These messages will appear when operating conditions are not normal; for example, tank overflowing or PID controller output high will belong to this category.
- Once the condition returns to normal, the message will disappear.
- All messages are also logged in the file C:\Temp\SysCAD\scd_log.csv with a date & time stamp. This file can be opened and printed with Excel or other text editor.
Message Description and Access
Message Types
The messages given are categorised into three types:
- If the source of a message is from a PGM file or PID controller, a green triangle (
) is shown to the right of the message icons (
,
or
.)
- When an error message occurs that requires the user's attention, the following message window will appear:
- The user has to press either Continue or Ignore to close the Error message window.
- In some cases, for example during database import, SysCAD will display errors as they are encountered. Pressing the continue button will continue to display error messages as the checking of the data progresses, while pressing the ignore button aborts the error message display.
- The user then has to view the normal message window for the list of errors.
Customising the Display
- The message box can be configured to display All Messages, just Warnings and Errors or Errors Only. This is done through the Show pull down list.
- The messages can be cleared individually by right clicking on the message and press Clear.
- To remove all messages from both lists, press the Clear All button.
- The Close button reduces the window to a minimised icon.
- The column widths can be adjusted by dragging the dividers between the headings.
- The split between the Top and Bottom sections can be adjusted using the left mouse button and dragging the split to the required position. If you double-click with the left mouse button, the split is centred.
Accessing Units associated with Messages
- Left double-click on a message with a valid tag in the Source column will bring up the Access Window for that tag.
- Right click on a message and a pop-up menu is shown:
- The Access and Find menu options are only shown if the message clicked on has a valid tag in the Source column.
- The Access option activates the Access Window for the specified tag.
- The Find option locates the tag in the Graphics Windows.
- The Copy Text and Copy Line options allows the error message be copied, this can then be pasted in any text editor for error reporting, e.g. for bug reporting purposes.
Other Access Options
- Right click on the body (background grey area) of the Message Window will bring up the following pop-up menu:
| Clear All | Clears both message lists. |
| Clear All Messages | Clears all messages in the Message list. |
| Clear All Conditions | Clears all messages in the Conditions list. |
| Sound | Switches the sound option on or off. Only the error messages generate a beep sound. |
| Display on Error | As new messages arrive, the Message Window will be displayed even if it was minimised. This option can be switched on or off. |
| Centre Splitter | Centres the split between the two lists. |
