Edit
Command Path Action, Edit
Short Cut Key Ctrl+Shift+E
If this button is pressed down, SysCAD is in the Edit mode. This action will STOP the ProBal / Dynamic Simulation if SysCAD is currently solving. In this mode, the user is allowed to make graphical and
configurational changes to the model. If this button is de-selected, SysCAD will be in the idle mode.
In general, to start the simulation, select Actions | Run. To Stop the simulation, select Actions | Edit. To pause the simulation, select Actions | Idle.
Note: Most of the commands under File, Project and Graphics require SysCAD to be in the Edit mode before it can be activated. Examples of such are Project | Probal Setup Options, Graphics | Delete and so on.
Run
Command Button
(for ProBal) OR
(for Dynamic)
Command Path Action, Run
Short Cut Key Ctrl+Shift+R
This button will toggle between Run/Idle modes. If the Run button is pressed, SysCAD will start the ProBal solve or Dynamic simulation. If the Run button is de-selected, then SysCAD will be in the idle mode (see next heading), which is equivalent to Pause. To Stop the simulation, select Actions | Edit.
Run to Steady State
Command Path: Action - Run to Steady State
This command will start the Dynamic simulation and run until either:
- The maximum number of iterations, defined by the user, has been reached, or
- The steady state criteria, also defined by the user, have been met.
The criteria for steady state are set in Dynamic Configuration. This is accessed from the command path: View - Dynamic Configuration.
Idle
Command Path Action, Idle
Short Cut Key Ctrl+Shift+I
Selecting Idle will pause a dynamic or ProBal simulation once it has completed the current iteration. In this mode, user is not allowed to make any graphical or configurational changes to the model. However, numerical changes such as feed rate or set point changes are allowed.
In general, to start the simulation, select Actions | Run. To Stop the simulation, select Actions | Edit. To pause the simulation, select Actions | Idle.
Warning: This command may not stop SysCAD immediately, especially if the project runs slowly. Wait for the word Idle to appear on the status bar at the bottom of the page.
Note: Most of the commands under File, Project and Graphics require SysCAD to be in the Edit mode before it can be activated. Examples of such are Project | Probal Setup Options, Graphics | Delete and so on.
Step
Command Path Action, Step
Short Cut Key Ctrl+Shift+T
This is will perform one iteration when activated.
Solve Flows
Command Path Action, Solve Flows
This allows the user to obtain an estimate of the flows in a dynamic project, without actually completing an iteration. This is useful for a project with a complicated network of links.
This function is currently disabled.
Empty All
Command Path Action, Empty
This command will empty the contents of Unit operations with volume; an example of such is the tank model. It is equivalent to the Empty option in the Dynamic Setup dialog box, used in Dynamic simulation.
Zero All Flows
Command Path Action, Empty
This command will clear all the flows in the pipes. This is equivalent to the Zero Flows option in the Dynamic Setup dialog box, used in Dynamic simulation.
Preset All
Command Path Action, Preset
This command will preset all unit operations (where applicable) with contents at the predefined conditions. Make sure the preset conditions are properly defined in each unit operation (containing volume) before using this command. This is equivalent to the Preset option in the Dynamic Setup dialog box, used in Dynamic simulation.
